About Taralee
These paintings draw inspiration from mid-20th century polished aluminum trailers, influenced by WWII aeronautics. Companies like Bowlus and Spartan, which originally produced airplanes, transitioned to the leisure trailer industry. My painting technique accentuates the distortion in the reflective metal, creating a camouflage effect where the trailer blends into its environment. This evokes themes from Bataillean Surrealism, including animal mimicry and formlessness. The distorted metallic surface transforms into an arena for abstract forms that challenge recognition. Viewers are presented with disorienting visual information, prompting them to search for their own reflection, which may appear strangely elongated like Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” (1893). Taralee Guild holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University (2010) and a Diploma in Art from the Victoria College of Art (2005). She is a full-time painter based in Vancouver, BC.
