About Krista
Krista Reuter is a Michigan artist known for her hand-cut and torn layered paper art, exploring light and shadow to transform two-dimensional planes into three-dimensional objects. Drawing inspiration from abstract patterns in nature, she earned her BFA from Iowa State University and studied at the Royal College of Art. With her award-winning works exhibited internationally, she has worked in fine art galleries and served as program director at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts for six years.
Emphasizing simplicity, paper reflects light and depth, allowing her to express fragility and strength in her art. Techniques like threading fine lines through paper or piercing it create tenderness and tension.
Her work suggests a contemplative process, blurring the lines between drawing and sculpture. Layered sheets separated by air form intriguing shadows, inviting viewer curiosity.
Reuter aims to celebrate the handmade and shift the viewer’s perspective, delivering clear, impactful statements that create a poetic spatial experience of delicacy and definition.
