Lisa Whitwell is a Pacific Northwest artist whose expressionistic paintings often explore animal presence within the natural world. Working from Studio Nordhaven, she moves between close observation and intuitive mark-making, combining acrylic with collage, fiber, natural and unexpected materials, metal leaf, ink and textured gesso. Expressive faces and watchful eyes anchor her compositions while bodies and surrounding landscapes become fragmented, atmospheric and abstract. Her work is shaped by an enduring interest in ecology, mystery, and the thresholds between animal and habitat, realism and abstraction, and the earthly and the ethereal
