Randena Walsh

Pastel + Watercolor Painter
Pacific Northwest landscape, expressive line

The Artist Randena Walsh

Randena Walsh was born and raised in Bremerton, Washington, and grew up on Puget Sound, where the fascination with the natural world that drives her work began. Her studio sits on Gamble Bay, surrounded by native flora and fauna that inform much of the painting. She earned her BA at The Evergreen State College in 1996 and was a three-year recipient of the Alfred G. & Elma M. Milotte scholarship for her undergraduate work in painting and natural history studies.

Walsh works in pastel and watercolor, and is well-known in the Pacific Northwest for her interpretations of the regional landscape in those media. "Gesture and expressive use of line are key elements in my work," she has said. "Sensitive, lively lines act as a conduit for my emotions. Only the essential is expressed." Her source material comes from hiking and kayaking the Olympic Peninsula. She has taught design at Olympic College and demonstrates drawing and painting techniques as a guest artist for arts organizations and classes.
