A narrow upright canvas in ochre and gold, carrying red and cobalt blocks down its length, with a single band of clear blue across the foot. That blue band is the only unbroken passage in the painting and it anchors everything above it. The proportions are almost two to one, which forces the reading downward — you arrive at the water rather than starting from it.
