A shoreline seen low and close: violet headland, turquoise shallows and a faceted foreground of wet stone, everything broken into flat blocks of colour that meet without blending. Thirty by forty inches. Borcherding calls these deconstructions, and the method is visible here at its clearest — the beach is assembled from perhaps two hundred separate patches, each laid once and left.
