Ovals and blocks in teal, cobalt and oxblood are set into a grey-green worked ground, overlapping without merging — every form keeps its own outline no matter how crowded the neighbourhood gets. That is the argument the title is making and the painting makes it structurally rather than illustratively. The ground is scraped back in places to show earlier colour, so the coexistence has a history in it.
