Summer trees crowd both banks and stand upside down in the water beneath them, the reflection brighter and greener than the foliage that casts it. The river surface is almost unbroken. McShane paints the reflected world with slightly more saturation than the real one, which is optically wrong and exactly what still water looks like on a bright day.
