A golden-crowned sparrow in profile against pale green and ochre, the black crown stripes and yellow centre crisply drawn while the body dissolves into wash. Third in a series. Walsh consistently resolves the head and lets the rest go, which is how the bird actually registers in the field — you see the face and infer the rest.
