The long horizontal format is chosen for a subject that moves through depth and distance. Freda builds a mixed-media surface where watercolor washes, printed fragments, and graphite line distribute the composition across the panel’s length. The humpback whale occupies the same visual register as the text and map fragments embedded in the surface: all are evidence, none is background. Mixed media on archival paper.
