The surface under moving light

Scarlet, teal and gold planes fold and cut across each other on a smoke-stained sheet, the paper's stained edge left visible all round. Eighteen by fourteen. It is his most abstract work here — mountain as folded colour rather than as landform — and the hottest palette he uses.
