A macaque sits upright on a bare ground with a seal-point siamese kitten beside her, both facing front, neither acknowledging the other. Juvonen splits the picture by temperature — the monkey in warm greys and ochre, the cat in cool cream with dark points — so two animals occupying the same empty space still refuse to belong to the same colour world. The narrow upright format crops close on both. As with the mandrill, the strangeness is delivered without any signal that it is strange.
