A tall narrow panel — twenty by ten inches — of dark firs climbing a slope with Mount Baker beyond. The vertical format compresses the view into a corridor and turns the climb itself into the subject, which a horizontal panel of the same scene could not do. Small, fast, and painted where he stood. Weiss works plein air on oil-primed linen and this is exactly the size that fits in a pack.
