Her largest canvas here, five feet across, and the most generous with space. A single heavy trunk stands right of centre in rust and umber, and around it the light is pale green and cream, worked thin so the weave shows through in places. A clearing opens at the foot of the picture with a track running into it. After the closed interiors this is a room rather than a thicket, and the title is exact — an oasis is defined by the thing surrounding it.
