A low panorama: still water in the foreground, a band of autumn trees across the middle, a pale sky. Five by twelve inches. The horizontal format gives her no vertical incident at all, so the painting runs on the colour of the treeline alone — ochre, olive, a struck note of scarlet — laid over water that returns all of it slightly cooler.
