The surface under moving light
This view is built only from real photographs of the work, each lit from a different angle, so you can move the light yourself and watch the real surface answer. It is being captured in the studio and will appear here. Until then we show nothing rather than an imitation.
A grey sky, a dark field, and scattered across both a handful of small red structures — most sitting along the horizon and in the near ground, and one, unmistakably, floating in the sky at the upper right. Collado offers no explanation for it and the painting is better for the refusal. Everything else is tonal and restrained, the ground worked in umber and olive with the surface scraped and reworked; the red is the only chroma in the picture and it is doled out in fragments no larger than a thumbnail. The floating one turns a quiet landscape into a question.
