Five inches square. A male pine grosbeak in profile against a pale ground, the rose-red plumage worked wet and the wing bars picked out crisply. Her name is scratched into the top of the panel. These small bird studies are painted from life and observation rather than from her decorative imagination — the species is identifiable, which in her studio work it usually is not.
