The surface under moving light

Amber spots across white above a slate band — warmth built into the panel layer by layer until it belonged there. Not applied. Accumulated. Encaustic is translucent where paint is opaque, so the warm marks sit at genuinely different depths inside the wax rather than on its surface — depth here is structural, not illusory. Worked with a torch, letting the shapes arise rather than drawing them.
