Monarch butterflies rise across a soft violet-grey ground from a low band of orange and cream flowers. Thirty inches square. The upper two thirds are almost empty and the butterflies thin out as they climb, so the composition reads as departure rather than arrival. It is the quietest of her large acrylics and the only one with no bird in it.
