The surface under moving light

This view is built only from real photographs of the work, each lit from a different angle, so you can move the light yourself and watch the real surface answer. It is being captured in the studio and will appear here. Until then we show nothing rather than an imitation.

These scattered shapes — the small house, the circles, the rectangles drifting across the canvas — are intuitive and emotive marks that arrived without a plan, each one a fragment of something felt rather than named. I made the dark moves into the lower corners knowing they might break the whole composition, because the safe arrangement was never an option. This is the abstracted melding of memory and place that fills my canvas when I stop thinking and start feeling.
