The surface under moving light

This view is built only from real photographs of the work, each lit from a different angle, so you can move the light yourself and watch the real surface answer. It is being captured in the studio and will appear here. Until then we show nothing rather than an imitation.

Folded ribbons of blue, slate and green move horizontally across a stained and pieced ground, eighteen by twenty-four. Water again, and again with no creature in it. The paper's own patchwork shows through the paint at every seam — he does not disguise the join, which is the bookbinder's inheritance he writes about.
