The surface under moving light

This view is built only from real photographs of the work, each lit from a different angle, so you can move the light yourself and watch the real surface answer. It is being captured in the studio and will appear here. Until then we show nothing rather than an imitation.

Six inches square. Dense parallel lines in magenta, orange, violet and green run diagonally across the panel and through a translucent green disc set off centre. Companion to Rising, Moving at the same size and the same two hundred dollars. These small panels are where McMeans lets the drawing hand work with no subject to serve — no animal, no ground, no horizon — and the discipline that renders a wolf's coat elsewhere is here turned loose on pure line.
