I worked into the plate a narrow stream threading through the trees — that pale light held in the canopy, the quiet suggestion of somewhere further in. Hand-coloring lets me bring the muted greens and earth tones forward slowly, the way I find hope in these woodland places: not loudly, but as a moment of respite, something to return to.
