A wren cast hollow with its tail cocked hard upright, the body forming the bell and the tail the handle. Three inches tall. The bird is modelled accurately enough to identify the species — the barred tail, the fine bill, the particular round-shouldered stance — and the function is folded into the anatomy rather than imposed on it. It rings.
