Backlight With Teal Shadows

Carole Wade

A barn and silo seen against the light, so the structures come forward as flat dark planes while everything behind them is pale. The title names the method exactly: the shadow side is not grey but teal, laid on in slabs with the knife, and a hot line of orange runs along one roof edge where the sun catches. Wade builds the whole picture from about eight flat shapes and lets the colour temperature do all the modelling.
