Raku 1
A horse in pale raku-fired clay, head raised and turned, the body breaking off before the hindquarters so the whole reads as something excavated rather than modelled. Twelve by eight inches, ceramic with a white crackle raku glaze. It stands on a single steel rod above a live-edge plinth with a knot open in its face. Nordean rode racehorses at Longacres and Emerald Downs before she was an artist, and it shows in what she leaves out: she knows the whole animal well enough to give you only part of it.
