Here, Frigate is a Pilot

Britt Freda

The frigatebird fills the panel head-down, its hooked bill sweeping to the lower right and leaving the frame. This is the highest-contrast painting in the Sanctuary group: true blacks against bare white, with none of the warm greys that soften the pelican. The body is assembled from long feather-cells outlined in black, some filled solid, some left as bare panel — and the bill is the one passage she leaves smooth, a single tonal sweep against all that cellular structure. The eye sits high in the densest patterning, a small ringed circle you have to look for. A bird built for staying aloft, drawn as if the wind were already under it.
