Little Egret

Barbara Duzan

An egret bends to a shallow bronze basin, its beak nearly touching the surface, one leg forward. The basin is patinated deep blue-green and given a rippled interior; the bird is pale and worked smooth. It is Duzan's most complete small tableau — bird and water cast as one object — and it is designed to be seen from above, which is unusual for a sculpture and exactly right for a wading bird.
