Barbara Duzan

The same reclining hare as its ceramic twin, cast in bronze and patinated near-black, so the form that read warm and matte in clay now reads cool and dense. Nothing about the modelling changes; everything about the object does. Shown together the pair makes the point that netsuke were always as much about material in the hand as about subject, and Duzan has made the comparison available rather than argued it.
