Artwork
Palmyra
Classical architecture rendered in violet and cobalt — a portico with columns, figures raising their arms between them, a lyre-player below — with gold leaf worked into the lower band and small processional shapes crossing it. The palette is almost entirely cool and the gold is the only warmth, placed low so the eye finishes at the bottom of the sheet rather than the top. Fisher takes a ruined city and rebuilds it as ornament, which is a particular kind of memorial.
