Portal (Series) 1
Douglas fir, Ecopoxy (soy-based resin), acrylic paint. Square panel, charcoal-gray, horizontal grain. Concentric circles: turquoise, pale green, and cream. Gold and black dotted cluster at the core. Layered acrylic, smooth finish on circles. Portal 1 is the first statement of a form McConnell works through seven iterations — the circle as opening, the cedar as the material that once stood in a primordial forest, now found in a dumpster on its way to landfill.
