Shahdad
A grid of circles, five across, in teal, olive, ochre and gold — each disc a separate piece of patterned or metallic paper, several carrying visible texture and leaf. Nothing else is in the picture. The regularity of the grid against the irregularity of each individual disc is the whole composition, and the gold ones are distributed so no two sit adjacent. Named for a bronze-age site in the Iranian desert, and the arrangement does read as excavation: finds laid out in rows.
