Storied Cedar
A single old-growth cedar fills a tall narrow canvas, its trunk running the full five feet, with colour breaking around the bark in ribbons of green and gold. The tree is legible and its surroundings are not. Guild paints from photographs taken in protected BC forest, and she has placed this work explicitly in a line that runs through Emily Carr and the Group of Seven — Canadian painters who went to the same trees.
