Thonis Heracleion

Brian Fisher

A narrow vertical strip carrying a stacked column of discs in blue, slate and sea-green, each with its own faint internal pattern. Thonis-Heracleion is the Egyptian port city that sank into Aboukir Bay and was not found again for twelve centuries, and the format — a core sample, a column of sediment read from top to bottom — is exactly the way it was eventually recovered.
