Four feet wide and only twelve inches tall. A raven perches on a fir branch that runs the entire length of the canvas against pale sky, the needles worked in loaded green and violet strokes. The extreme horizontal format is the composition — the bird is small, placed left, and the remaining three feet are branch and air. The pun in the title is deliberate and he does not lean on it.
