Forest Daybreak
A circular canvas looking directly up through old-growth trunks into breaking light, the canopy fracturing into planes of viridian, cobalt and cadmium as it climbs. Guild has written about the effect she is after: dematerialization, where the structure of a space becomes less important than the experience of it, and she cites Hagia Sophia. The tondo is doing exactly what a dome does — there is no up or down in it, only centre and edge.
