Arctic Spirits
A polar bear stands in profile; a red fox sits squarely on its back; a puffin stands on the fox. Three animals from the same latitude and no two of them at the same scale relative to life. The ground is flat tan, the bear worked in cream and pale grey with the barest modelling, the fox the only saturated thing in the picture. Juvonen stacks them without comment — no snow, no ice, no narrative. It is a totem assembled from a biome, and it holds together because each animal is painted with complete seriousness.
