The title tells you the joke and the painting declines to play it — the moose is rendered with the same dull warm brown and heavy muzzle Juvonen gives every large mammal, and neither animal is cartooned. Flat cream ground, no setting. He has taken a reference most people carry from childhood and painted it as natural history.
