Bog Orchid
A single white bog orchid rising against warm ochre, its florets picked out along a green stem. Fifteen by twelve. A botanical subject given the full sheet and nothing else — no habitat, no ground. Walsh paints this species where it grows, in wet Pacific Northwest ground, and the plant is small enough in life that a fifteen-inch sheet is a considerable magnification.
