Bushtit, 2023
A bushtit gripping a bare twig against a warm brown ground, eighteen inches square. Bushtits are among the smallest birds in North America — four inches, mostly tail — and Walsh gives this one enough scale to show the grey plumage and the pale eye. The background is left as a single warm wash so nothing competes with the bird.
