Snow Bound
Twelve inches square, and the most restricted painting in his catalogue: white, ice blue and pale lavender only, worked in small dense strokes with no dark and no warm colour anywhere. The surface relief carries what the palette refuses to. It is a study in how little difference is needed before an eye will still find structure, and at this scale the answer turns out to be very little.
