I work into the unknown here — vertical lines of white and deep green rising through the wax, shapes that arrived in the spontaneous dance of liquid encaustic and torch-heat rather than through any fixed intention. I'm always adding new layers, yet also reaching down to excavate; that lower band of rippled green and blue-green feels like ground or still water — a place where one color quietly meets another. My subject is the natural world, and this is where I find it: in fields of color, in what the wax decides to hold. Encaustic on cradled birch panel. 65 × 30 in. 2025.
