Raven Cairn

Barbara Duzan

A raven in dark bronze stands on a stack of three balanced stones, head lowered, beak toward the topmost. The cairn is cast too, its stones smooth grey and unmistakably weighted — the whole sculpture is one continuous piece pretending to be two found things put together. Duzan gives the bird a slight forward lean that reads as interest rather than balance. The stack is the kind a walker leaves; the bird is the kind that would knock it down.
