Birdsong
Five and a half feet tall and almost entirely air. A tall openwork bronze frame stands like a gate or an empty cage, and inside it small bird and seedpod forms hang at intervals, teal-patinated, each one free to be read as caught or as sheltered. Duzan gives the structure no door and no back. It is her most abstract work and the one that most depends on where it is placed — against a window the whole piece becomes drawing.
