Ascension

Jill Kyong

A triptych built as a kind of altar, asking who or what we stand in solidarity with. The yellow circle at center recalls the gold cupolas on Ukrainian Orthodox churches, or the halo on an icon painting; it also reads as a moon or horizon. Between the trees a yellow bird rests, longing to ascend. Acrylic paint on wood, with Hemlock, Poplar, and Maple frames, Osmo Top Oil finish on the frames, bird, and yellow field.
