Ecola Point, 2024
A dark headland closes the right of the picture and the sea runs out from it toward a bank of grey cloud, the water carrying long horizontal reflections in slate and pewter. McShane blends the paint until the brush is invisible; everything here is done with tonal transition and nothing with mark. The headland is a flat silhouette with no interior detail at all, so the whole picture's description sits in the water — which is where the light is.
