Five and a half by seven and a half inches — the smallest work she has here. A pond edge with dark firs behind and a pale sky above, put down in perhaps a dozen strokes. At this size everything is decided in a single sitting and nothing can be recovered or gone back into, which is why the small sheets in a naturalist's practice are often the most confident things in it.
