The Viking
The largest and most violent of Parvin's paintings. Ultramarine and deep violet collide with an acid yellow-green across a white ground, the darks pooling into hard-edged masses while the yellow tears through them in a diagonal. Where her blooms are centred and contained, this is off-balance on purpose — weight gathered low and left, the upper right almost empty. The cell structure is at its coarsest here, the pigment allowed to break rather than settle. Abstract, but the title is not arbitrary: something in the mass and the forward lean of it does read as a prow.
