Found objects anchor painted surfaces in this wood-based assemblage. McConnell’s accumulation strategy suggests palimpsest without surrendering to metaphorical tidiness.
Mixed media on salvaged cedar. Horizontal grain in the upper two-thirds; charred wood in the lower section — two conditions of the same material. Concentric circles: bright lime green outermost, a dark brown textured ring, pale turquoise, pale yellow, innermost dark brown. McConnell works from construction-site salvage: this cedar once stood in a building before it stood in a forest. The history is in the grain. $3,500. International shipping available.
