Painted wood and resin in layered assembly. McConnell applies acrylic directly to raw wood, then encases sections in clear resin, creating striated surfaces where color reads through translucent medium.
Mixed media — painted wood and resin on salvaged cedar. McConnell salvages old-growth cedar from construction dumpsters, then carves and dyes it: concentric circles in coral, forest green, and pale mint sit against horizontal cedar grain. The carved linear texture across the lower section holds color differently than the open surface. He describes cedar burls as ‘what gold is to aluminum’ — the grain here tells you why. Mixed media on salvaged cedar. $4,500. International shipping available.
